Overview

FitIL is a mobile app project we designed and built. This case study walks through our approach, the decisions we made, and what we learned along the way.

The Challenge

Mobile users are impatient, distracted, and rarely on stable networks. For FitIL, we had to design an app that feels fast even on slow connections, and useful even in short interaction windows.

Our Approach

We started with a mobile-first product strategy: what does the user need in the first 3 seconds? From there, we built an architecture that separates the UI layer from data fetching, so the interface stays responsive while the network catches up in the background. Offline behavior, error recovery, and state persistence were treated as first-class features, not afterthoughts.

Technical Decisions

For the mobile side we used React Native / native code where performance mattered most, backed by a REST API that handles auth, data, and real-time updates. The build pipeline supports iOS and Android from a shared codebase where possible, with platform-specific optimizations where needed.

Design Decisions

Mobile design is a discipline of subtraction. Every screen has a single primary action, tap targets are generous, and the visual hierarchy is uncompromising about what matters and what can wait.

Outcome

FitIL feels less like an app and more like a tool users reach for reflexively. That kind of retention comes from thousands of small design decisions, not from any single big idea.

What We Learned

Working on FitIL reinforced a few beliefs we hold across every project: the interface is not the product – the outcome is; performance is a feature; and design details compound over time. Small choices about spacing, transitions, and error states add up to a product that people actually enjoy using.
